Stanley Screamers

I know it's been a while since I've posted here, I"ve had a very busy summer!

Anyway, I just wanted to basically brag about the deal I have made for a pair of stanley screamers. So far they aren't perfectly intact. Only 2 of the 15" coaxials are there, and they are mismatched. He has the horn drivers, I have given him some different ones to use and he'll give me the originals back. That's all it cost me, the pair of other drivers that I had laying on the shelf anyway, plus a set of 15" Peavey Black Widows!

These have the original grills on the, as well as the original hard cover that goes over the grill for the truck pack.

I'll get photos once I get them home!

ok, finally got the stanley screamers home. They are in pretty good condition, I'm happy with that. They have wheels on the bottom, a huge plus!

I am missing a set of the 604's unfortunately. I don't know if the guy has them or not, but I'm going to guess not.

What would be a good driver to put in there instead of a coax one? I really don't need the dual tweeter horns in the basement.

I'm thinking some 416's, I think I have one, would have to find another.

However, I do have a pair of 3156's, maybe they would be better?

I'll be looking for crossover information also. I know these came from the factory to be tri-amped, but somebody put an EV 3way crossover in them. I'll try it, but I"m not expecting great results.

Any thoughts or advice?

I am guessing your Screamers are this version;

MRII594A horn with 291 driver on top and dual 604's stacked below it, fiberglass covered cabinet with front cover, and casters.

I helped install a generic three-way crossover in a pair of the above Screamers. The big problem is the 291 needs to be padded down to match levels. I added a couple of the 30W adjustable pads found in many Altec crossovers . . . Worked!

However, I felt the sound from this speaker was more appropriate for live bands than for hi-fi . . .

yea, I've got the 3156's and might try it. I also have another pair of 604-8G's that I could put in for testing purposes. They aren't the HP version, but I'll just be careful.

I'll probably tri-amp them, bypassing the crossover that's in them. I have 3 working 9440 amps (that I was thinking about selling to somebody, but I never got photo's emailed out...sorry about that if your reading this, but they might still be for sale sometime!)

As for live use and not hi-fi, that's perfect for me, as my main side project is providing production for bands.

If they don't end up in my basement as cabinets that I can roll in and listen to once in a while when I want that live type of sound, they they might end up as sidefills for my main PA rig, or maybe drum monitors, those drummers seem to be quite deaf I think!

yes, you are exactly right on the description.
